Philly The Finisher retains title of Dublin Snooker Champion for 2025 sponsored by Ink Spot
The DBSL would like to congratulate “The Finisher” Philip Browne, of Roadstone E, on winning the Ink Spot 2025 Dublin Scratch Snooker Championships. Philip beat Andrew Doherty 3-1 in the final, securing victory, and taking the title for the second year in a row. The event was held in Roadstone Snooker Club Saturday 12th April and in Pioneers Snooker Club Sunday 13th April.
Philip Browne started the tournament seeded number 1, of course, and had a straight forward route to the Quarter Final, where he came up against the up and coming Clayton Cregan of Pioneers Blue. The finisher beat Clayton 3-1 and moved on to face the well experienced Brendan Thomas in the Semi Final.
Brendan got ahead slightly in the first two frames of the semi final but, unfortunately for Brendan, Philip showed his own patience and experience, and chipped away in both frames, clawing back the deficit, and taking the lead into the colours on both occasions, putting himself 2-0 in front. The finisher then more or less bossed the 3rd and final frame, winning the match 3-0 and booking his place in the final.
As the final got underway, you could cut the tension with a knife, as each player desperately wanted to take the opening frame and assert dominance over the other. Both players were locked level on 35 points each on the last red when Philip finally got the upper hand and laid a difficult snooker, in which Andrew failed to escape the first two attempts. On the third attempt, Andrew hit the red but left his opponent a chance. Philip capitalised on this chance and took the opening frame.
Andrew hit back in frame 2 with a 37 break straight away and although the end of the frame was a little rocky, this contribution was enough in the end for Andrew to take the second frame levelling the match 1-1.
The third frame could have gone either way, with Philip getting in first with a 34 and Andrew answering with a 28. The frame was in the balance and Andrew looked like he may take it but missed the yellow, allowing Philip back to the table to take the yellow, green and brown, which was enough to take his lead to 2-1.
Philip then went on to take the 4th and final frame getting himself into the lead early with two modest breaks of 20 and 18 and protecting it well. The final score: 3-1 to the Finisher.
Andrew’s route to the final saw him beat Brian McPhee, of Pioneers Blue, 3-1 in the last 16 match, before taking down Kevin O’Brien, also of Pioneers Blue, 3-1 in the Quarter Final and Robert Moynihan, of Transport Club, 3-0 in the Semi Final.
DBSL would also like to thank Tournament Director Stephen Merrigan, Brendan Murphy and Niall Lawless, and both the Roadstone Snooker Club and Pioneer Snooker Club for their fine hospitality throughout both days. Thanks also to Niall Lawless for reffing the Final.
DBSL would also like to give a special thanks and mention to the sponsor of the event, Ink Spot.
Highest Break of the tournament was 61, compiled nicely by Brian “The Rocket” O’Rourke.

Philip Browne makes 6 red Final two years in a row
DBSL would like to congratulate Philip Browne on reaching the final of the National 6 Red Championships for the second year in a row.
He will once again face Rodney Goggins in the final which will be held on the Finals Weekend in Carlow in May.
His route to the 2025 Final consisted of close 5-4 wins over John Thorpey, in round 1, and Dylan Rees, in the last 16.
Philip then moved on to beat Victor McCormack 5-4 in the quarter final and Mark Gleeson 5-0 in the semi Final.
Peter Conroy wins 2025 Dublin Individual Championships sponsored by First Aid Systems LTD
DBSL would like to wish a huge congratulations to Peter “The Pistol” Conroy, of Pioneers Black, on winning the 2025 Dublin Individual Championships which was held this weekend in Roadstone and Pioneers Snooker Club on the 22nd/23rd March 2025.
Pete’s road to victory began Saturday morning in the Pioneers Venue and included two demolishing 3-0 wins over last year’s runner up Kevin O’Brien in the first round, and people’s champion Brian “Rocket” O Rourke, in the last 16.
The quarter final, however, was a little more cagey for Pete, but he still came through beating Pioneers Blue Joey Kenny 3-2 in a close decider.
Pete was again in fine form heading into the Semi Final, meeting one of Roadstone C’s finest, Paddy Brady. This match had a few ebbs and flows as Pete found himself 1-0 down to Paddy before battling back to 1-1, only for Paddy to push into the lead 2-1, and for Pete to once again battle back to level 2-2 bringing the game to a decider, Paddy looked the stronger as the frame neared its end but Pete’s tactical play marginally gained him the advantage which saw him edge over the line 3-2 and propel him into the final. Waiting for him was another Roadstone C obstacle. This time in the form of Big Dave Goddard.
In the Final showdown, the Pistol started strongly, potting some nice opening balls and playing tight safety, and quickly raced off to a 1-0 lead over his opponent. Dave battled hard in the second frame but Pete once again proved too strong, extending his lead out to 2-0. Dave struggled to contain the Pistol in the third frame and fell behind 38 points with 35 remaining. Dave had one last chance and played a nice red with the rest but couldn’t hold for the much needed pink or black. After a final bit of to-ing and fro-ing, Pete sealed the title by potting the brown for a 3-0 win, taking the match and title.
Dave’s impressive run to the final began in Round 1, beating the reigning champion Dehna Bennett of Pioneers Pink 3-1, and Pat Smullen of Pioneers Black 3-0 in the last 16, before eventually coming out victorious over a fellow Roadstone C team member Lenny Malone with a 3-0 win in the Quarter Final. On Sunday morning, Dave convincingly beat the steady Conor Harkin 3-0 in the semi final to book his place in the final against Peter.
DBSL would like to thank both Roadstone Snooker Club and Pioneers Snooker Club for once again hosting this great event, including Niall Lawless, Kevin O’Brien, Brendan Murphy, Ivor Fitzpatrick and Stephen Merrigan for showing a great deal of hospitality to all the players throughout the event. They would also like to thank Andrew Harvey for helping co-ordinate the latter parts of the Saturday event in Pioneers and a special mention and thanks to Brian “The Rocket” O’Rourke for reffing the Final.
DBSL would once again especially like to thank First Aid Systems Ltd for kindly sponsoring the event, which has hugely helped support not only this great tournament but also the growth of Snooker in Dublin.
Runner-up and Winner: Dave Goddard and Peter Conroy
Finalist and Referee Brian O’Rourke
Semi Finalists: Conor Harkin, Dave Goddard, Paddy Brady, Peter Conroy

Clayton Cregan wins DBSL Event 4 in Pioneers
The DBSL would like to congratulate Clayton “The Celt” Cregan, of Pioneers Blue, on winning the DBSL Handicap Series event 4, held in Pioneer Snooker Club today. Clayton beat DBSL newcomer Conor Finn, of Glenalbyn Blue, 2-1 in a close fought final, potting the final pink to seal the win.
Claytons’s run to the final started off with straight forward 2-0 wins over Martin Garland, of Pioneers White, in the last 16 and Tony O’Connor, of Glenalbyn Blue, in the Quarter finals. The semi final was a tougher affair but Clayton still managed to pull through, beating Glenalbyn Red’s Michael Kearns 2-0 on the black ball to book his place in the final.
On the other side of the draw, Conor had a great run to the Final, beating young Oscar Ellison Gibboins (Pioneers Pink) 2-1 in the pre lim and beating fellow team mate Gerry Sweeney 2-0 (Glenalbyn Blue) in the Last 16. He then advanced through the tournament where he beat Dean Murray (Ierne) 2-0 in the Quarter Final, and ground out a well deserved 2-1 win over Ivor Fitzpatrick (Pioneers Blue) in the semi final.
Dean Murray, of Ierne, had the highest break of the tournament with a 43 break in his last 16 match against Peter Conroy.
DBSL would like to thank Tournament Director Niall Lawless, and the Pioneer Snooker Club for their fine hospitality throughout the day. Special thanks to Tony O’Connor who reffed the final.
Winner and Runner Up: Clayton Cregan and Conor Finn

Pioneers Blue make the Final of the All Ireland Champs
DBSL would like to wish Pioneers Blue a huge congratulations on reaching the Final of the championship section of the 2025 All Ireland Snooker Championships in Killarney.
They done their club and the DBSL proud.
Well done to all the lads, pictured here, from left to right, Brian McPhee, Ivor Fitzpatrick, Kevin O’Brien, Andrew Doherty, Clayton Cregan and Joey Kenny.

Robert Moynihan wins DBSL Event 3 in Roadstone
The DBSL would like to congratulate Robert Moynihan, of Transport Club, on winning the 3rd DBSL series handicap event, held in the Roadstone Snooker Club.
Robert got off to great start to the tournament, beating Eric Pei 2-0 in his last 32 match, and moving on to beat fellow team mate Alan Byrne in his last 16 match, making it through to the quarter final.
In the Quarter final he took down the well experienced Brendan Thomas of Roadstone A, then progressed into the semi final where he bet Dave Goddard, of Roadstone C.
Due to fantastic support and great entry numbers, we had a late final showdown with Robert coming up against the ever improving Tony O’Connor of Glenalbyn Blue.
Both finalists were up for the challenge and couldn’t be separated at 1-1, forcing the decider. However, Robert proved too strong in the deciding frame, accumulating a nice 69 break, to beat Tony 2-1 and take the title.
Tony, himself, had a good run to the his impressive third DBSL final, beating Alex Hooper 2-0 in the last 32 round and Sean Hart 2-0 in the last 16.
Tony then went on to beat Ivor Fitzpatrick (who previously had beaten Tony in his last two finals) 2-1 in the quarter final and Jack Sheridan 2-1 in the semi final match.
George Murphy had the highest break of the tournament with a break of 84.
DBSL would also like to thank Tournament Director Stephen Merrigan and the Roadstone Club as always for their fine hospitality throughout the day. We would also like to thank Aidan Bergin of the Roadstone Snooker Club for his help in the evening.
