The DBSL would like to once again congratulate Ivor Fitzpatrick, of Pioneers Blue, on winning the fifth DBSL series handicap event, held in the Roadstone Snooker Club.

Ivor got off to good start beating Stephen Byrne Senior 2-0, in his last 16 match, and beating Dehna Bennett 2-0, in his Quarter Final match.

In the semi final he took on Dave Goddard of Roadstone C and also won the match with a convincing 2-0.

The final was a repeat of the third event this season, with Tony O’Connor of Glenalbyn Blue, taking on Ivor once again. And just as the last final dictated, this one also went to a 1-1 decider with Tony ahead by 55 points before Ivor made a sensational 88 total clearance to take the frame and match, beating Tony 2-1.

Tony had a good run again to the final, beating Pat Smullen 2-1 in his last 16 match and Niall Lawless 2-1 in his quarter final match. He then went on to beat Peter Conroy 2-1 in the semi final.

Ivor also had the highest break of the tournament with an 88 in the Final.

DBSL would like to wish a huge congratulations to Dehna “The Bullet” Bennett, of Pioneers’ Pink, on winning the 2024 Dublin Individual Championships which was held over two days in Roadstone and Pioneers Snooker Club on the 23rd/24th March 2023.

Dehna’s path to victory began Saturday morning in the Roadstone Venue and included a tight 3-2 win over Roadstone C’s Martin McDonald in the last 16th match, contrasted with a solid 3-0 win against Dave Goddard, also from Roadstone C, in his Quarter Final match, to book a place in the last 4 on Sunday morning in Pioneers.
Dehna was in fine form heading into the Semi Final, meeting another Roadstone in form player, this time George Murphy, of Roadstone B. Dehna proved too strong against George on the morning and took advantage early, and pressed on to win the game 3-0 and book a place in the Final against Pioneer Blue’s Kevin O’Brien.

In the Final showdown Dehna started strongly, potting some key balls and playing tight safety, and quickly raced off to a 2-0 lead over his opponent before Kevin had a chance to settle. In the third frame, Dehna had a chance to take the match 3-0 but unfortunately went in off on the last red leaving Kevin ball in hand. Kevin potted yellow to pink to take the frame and hoped to start a bit of a comeback. This comeback was short lived however, and in the 4th frame Kevin overcut the final black and left it over the pocket. Dehna composed himself and sank the black with a solid long pot to take the frame and match 3-1.

Kevin’s impressive run to the final began in round 1 beating Pat Smullen of Pioneers Black 3-1, and Alan Fitzpatrick of Pioneers White 3-0 in the last 16, before eventually coming out victorious over Pioneers Black’s Daniel McNamee with a 3-1 win in the Quarter Final. On Sunday morning Kevin beat reigning Champion and fellow team mate Ivor Fitzpatrick 3-2 in a tense decider to book his place in the final against Dehna.

DBSL would like to thank both Roadstone Snooker Club and Pioneers Snooker Club for hosting this great event, including Niall Lawless, Kevin O’Brien, Brendan Murphy, Ivor Fitzpatrick and Stephen Merrigan for showing a great deal of hospitality to all the players throughout the event.

A big congratulations to Andrew Doherty, of Willows A, on winning the fourth instalment of the DBSL Handicap Series, held in Pioneers Snooker Club on Saturday. Andrew narrowly beat Niall Lawless, of Pioneers Black, in a tense decider to take the match and title 2-1.

Andrew got off to a good start, with a fine break of 60 in his first frame, beating newcomer Adam McDonagh 2-0 in his last 16 match before beating Tony O’Connor, of Glenalbyn Blue, 2-1 in his Quarter Final Match.

Andrew faced a tough George Murphy, of Roadstone B, in the semi final. The match was close and led to a 1-1 decider, but Andrew proved too strong, and took the match in the end with a 2-1 win.

Niall Lawless had a great run to his first DBSL Series Final, beating Andrew Harvey 2-0 in the last 16 and beating Michael Kearns 2-0 in the Quarter Final, before taking on fellow Pioneers Black team mate Peter Conroy, and beating him 2-1 to progress to the final.

The DBSL would like to congratulate “The Finisher” Philip Browne, of Roadstone A, on winning the inaugural Dublin Scratch Championships, sponsored by Ink Spot, held in Roadstone Snooker Club this weekend. Philip crowned himself the Dublin number 1 player after beating George O’Hara in the Final. George himself has been in fine form as of late, after already making headlines, getting back to back centuries in his league match during the week.

Philip started the tournament very strong, beating Willows B’s Paddy Brady 3-0 in his last 16 match before taking on his fellow team mate Brendan Thomas, of Roadstone A, and beating him 3-1 in the Quarter Final.

Moving on to the Semi Final, Philip faced Andrew Doherty of Willows A, where he got off to a great start and led 2-0 quickly. Andrew had other ideas and fought back strongly taking the match to a tense 2-2 decider. However, Philip re-grouped and steadied himself to win the match 3-2.

Philip progressed to the Final and took his solid form with him, where he faced the Century Man of the Moment, George O’Hara, of Roadstone E. The Finisher proved to be too strong on the day for George and took the title with a fast and impressive 3-0 win, earning the title for 2024.

George’s route to the final saw him beat Tony Kenny, of Roadstone C, 3-2 in a nail biting last 16 match, before taking down Ivor Fitzpatrick, of Pioneer’s Blue, 3-1 in the Quarter Final and George Murphy, of Roadstone B, 3-0 in the Semi Final.

DBSL would also like to thank Tournament Director Stephen Merrigan and Niall Lawless, and the Roadstone Snooker Club for their fine hospitality throughout the day, and especially for extending the time frame to facilitate the latter matches on the same day.
